Hillsborough County Tax Collector Reminds Residents of Important 2024 Property & Tangible Tax Updates

Tampa, FL — November 21, 2024

TAMPA, Fla., November 21, 2024 – Hillsborough County Tax Collector Nancy Millan is reminding property owners about critical updates to the 2024 property tax process, which includes extended deadlines and early payment opportunities to assist residents recovering from the impact of Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
These updates aim to provide homeowners and business owners with additional time and resources during this challenging period while ensuring compliance with Florida law.
Key Updates for 2024 Property & Tangible Taxes:
  • Delayed Mailing of Tax Notices: Property and tangible tax notices, typically sent out on November 1, will now be mailed on November 25, 2024. This adjustment ensures property owners have adequate time to plan and make payments.
  • Extended Early Payment Discount: The 4% early payment discount is extended through December 31, 2024. This extension gives property owners additional time to maximize savings.
  • Tax Information Available Online: Property owners can view 2024 Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property Tax information online at hillstax.org. Payments can still be made at any time, despite the delayed mailing.
  • Property Assessment Date: The 2024 tax bills reflect property values assessed as of January 1, 2024. Damage caused by Hurricanes Helene or Milton will not be reflected in this year’s assessments.
“Extending the early payment discount and delaying the mailing of tax notices are ways we can help homeowners and support our community,” said Nancy Millan, Hillsborough County Tax Collector. “This decision provides property owners with the necessary time and flexibility to rebuild and recover, while also ensuring we fulfill our responsibilities to fund essential services like schools and law enforcement.”
Additional Information for Property Owners:
  • Property taxes for 2024 are due by March 31, 2025, unless an extension is provided under an Executive Order.
  • Residents who pay property taxes through escrow should contact their mortgage companies for information about payment remittance.
  • Property owners impacted by Hurricanes Milton or Helene can report damage using the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s Damage Assessment Form at https://dmz.hcpafl.org/storm, email StormDamage@hcpafl.org, or call the Property Damage Hotline at 813-272-6332.
