Hillsborough County Tax Collector Now Accepting Payment to Resolve Holds on Car Registrations Due to Unpaid Tolls

Tampa, FL — May 4, 2022

Tampa, FL— May 2, 2022Hillsborough County Tax Collector, Nancy C. Millan, partners with the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) to implement a more convenient process for customers to resolve vehicle registration holds due to unpaid tolls.

To help customers cut through the red tape, Tax Collector Nancy C. Millan, partnered with the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) to allow the Tax Collector’s Office to collect payment for the unpaid tolls along with the registration renewal transaction, saving customers time and multiple visits to the office.

Now, vehicle owners can pay delinquent toll-by-plate invoices while renewing their vehicle registrations at all Hillsborough County Tax Collector locations. Previously, the Tax Collector’s Office had to turn away customers with a hold on their registration due to unpaid tolls. Customer would have to pay the Expressway Authority first, then come back to the Tax Collector’s Office to renew their registrations.

“My top priority is to provide convenience and exceptional customer service to the taxpayers we serve,” said Hillsborough County Tax Collector Nancy C. Millan, whose office processes close to 1.4 million motor vehicle transactions annually. “I want to make it easier for taxpayers to get what they need from the Tax Collector’s Office.  That’s why I’m so grateful for this partnership to make the process of renewing vehicle registrations and clearing toll violations as simple and efficient as possible.”

The Tax Collector’s Office provides this service at no additional cost to taxpayers.  Millan reports the office can also collect unpaid tolls and clear vehicle registration holds for the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX).

“We value any opportunity to collaborate and create key community partnerships. This partnership is one that makes it more convenient for our customers and gives them the ability to conduct business with both of our organizations in one location,” said Greg Slater, THEA CEO and Executive Director.

The Hillsborough County Tax Collector began their partnership with THEA in March 2022 and CFX in April 2021.  To date, about 8,000 vehicle registration customers have been able to clear a toll stop at a Tax Collector’s Office without toggling back and forth between the agencies to get what they need and get on the road.
