New Tax Collector’s Southshore office scheduled to open Summer 2018.
Tampa, FL — June 19, 2018
TAMPA, FL – (June 19, 2018) – Construction of the Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s 14,000 square-foot office in Southshore is near completion and is scheduled to open on Tuesday, July 24th, 2018. The new office is located at 406 30th Street, S.E., just north of the existing office and; adjacent to the Hillsborough County Southshore Regional Service Center.
The new office will replace the current Tax Collector office in the Sun Point Shopping Center at 3002 E. College Avenue, which will close at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 6, 2018.
The Southshore project is part of Tax Collector, Doug Belden’s continued commitment to providing the citizens of Hillsborough County with excellent customer service, which includes having a facility large enough to serve one of Hillsborough County’s fastest-growing areas.
According to Hillsborough County economic development data, growth in the Southshore area, which includes Apollo Beach, Riverview, Ruskin and Wimauma, has increased by 74% since 2000. The area is projected to grow another 10.3% by 2020.
The new building is being developed on parcels owned by Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) and Hillsborough County. The cost for building the new office is just over $3 million, including all interior improvements. The existing lease which is expiring, will save tax payers approximately $135,000 per year. Belden estimates buying the land on the open market would have been an additional $1 million.
Belden’s continued partnership with the county and other government agencies such as HART prove to be cost-effective and beneficial to the citizens of Hillsborough County. “It is important to me and my office to work diligently with local and state government offices to better serve our citizens while maintaining a fiscally conservative budget,” Belden says. As part of the agreement, a new bus stop on 30th street for HART riders will be built.
At the new location, residents will be able to obtain driver licenses, pay property taxes, renew registrations as well as obtain Florida birth certificates and hunting and fishing licenses.
The Southshore ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place on Monday, July 23rd, 2018 at 9 am.
