Renewal Period Change for Owners of Heavy Trucks

Tampa, FL — September 4, 2020

TAMPA, FL – (September 4, 2020) The Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s Office announced today that the registration renewal period for heavy trucks weighing between 5,001 and 7,999 pounds is changing from December to the first registered owner’s birthdate. This statewide change stems from 2019 Legislation and affects only heavy trucks owned by individuals, not by businesses. The transition to the birthdate renewal will take place during this year’s 2020 renewal period.

For the 2020 heavy truck renewal period, when customers renew in December, they will have a couple of options. Depending on the birth month of the first registered owner, the registration may be renewed for up to 24 months. Customers may be able to renew online, by mail, in person (by appointment only), or at a self-service registration renewal kiosk located at five Publix locations throughout Hillsborough County. Registrations can be renewed up to three months before their month of expiration, so owners of heavy trucks weighing between 5,001 and 7,999 pounds can renew as early as September 1, 2020.

“I encourage customers to take advantage of the online or kiosk renewal options,” said Belden. “No appointment required, and it is an easy and convenient way to renew.”

As a reminder, due to COVID-19, all offices except the Downtown location are open by appointment only. If you need to schedule an appointment for in-person service, please visit www.hillstax.org.
