Tax Collector Expands Driver License Services to East Tampa

TAMPA, FL – (June 20, 2012) Doug Belden, Hillsborough County Tax Collector announces the addition of a new branch office, offering driver license services in the East Tampa area, located at 2814 E. Hillsborough Ave., Building 2. The office is scheduled to open for business on June 25, 2012.

“We continue to look for ways to better serve our customers by making our services easily accessible and convenient to the public.” Belden said.   The office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For faster service, customers are encouraged to schedule an appointment; however, walk-ins are welcomed until 3:30 pm.  This will be the Tax Collector’s first office to only provide driver license services, including new licenses, renewals, replacement licenses, identification cards, and reinstatement services. No driving tests are administered at this office. Customers needing a driving test should visit the state office located at 4100 W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Tampa.

The addition of the office in East Tampa is a result of legislation passed that mandates county Tax Collectors take over all driver license functions from the state of Florida by 2015.   Belden states, “My primary focus is to accommodate the increase in customer traffic as state offices close.”

Belden and his staff have a comprehensive plan for transitioning state driver license offices located throughout Hillsborough County into existing Tax Collector’s offices within the next three years.
