Vehicle for Hire Rates
Taxicabs shall charge no more than the following for metered rates:
- Three dollars and fifty cents ($3.50), for the first mile or portion thereof
- Two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50), for each additional mile or portion thereof
- Forty cents ($.40) for each minute of waiting time
- A fifteen dollar ($15.00) minimum applies when the passenger(s) departs Tampa International Airport. The actual taximeter rate shall be the total rate once the taximeter exceeds the fifteen dollars ($15.00) minimum.
Taxicabs have the option of charging either the metered rate as established above or a flat rate, as specified below, but only for trips originating within or arriving to the in-town short ride zone, which is comprised of the downtown Tampa area, with boundaries designated by the Agency. Flat rates may only be charged as set forth below:
- For trips originating in and ending in this zone with a single passenger, a maximum flat rate of four dollars ($4.00).
- For trips originating in and ending in this zone with two or more passengers, regardless of route taken or delays en route, a maximum flat rate of four dollars ($4.00) per person for each passenger over the age of twelve (12) years of age, with a maximum of twelve dollars ($12.00), regardless of number of passengers
- A flat rate not to exceed thirty dollars ($30.00) for transport between Tampa International Airport and the in-town short ride zone, unless as agreed to between the passenger and the driver
- A flat rate may be charged that is equal to or less than the metered rate specified above.
Taxicabs may charge a passenger up to fifty dollars ($50.00) as a clean-up charge if he or she soil the interior of the taxicab with bodily fluids or solids. This charge shall be in addition to the rates prescribed above.
Taxicabs may charge a passenger a five dollar ($5.00) surcharge, in addition to the metered or flat rates specified above, during times where there are major concert and entertainment events held in Hillsborough County or when they are departing from an airport or seaport facility.
Limousines shall charge a minimum rate of thirty dollars ($30.00) per hour, or portion thereof, regardless of whether such limousines are utilized on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or other contracted charter arrangement.
Handicabs shall charge a minimum rate of eighteen dollars ($18.00) for pick up and two dollars ($2.00) per miles.
Vans shall charge a minimum rate of twelve dollars ($12.00) for the first passenger in a party and five dollars ($5.00) for every additional passenger within the same party.
Rates and Zones
Airport Flat Rates
- Only for direct, non-stop trips
- Tampa Airport to and from In-Town Zone – $25.00
- No Taximeter Operation for Flat Rate
- All Other Trips From Airport – $15 Minimum
In-Town Zone
- $4.00 Person for trips that begin and end in this zone
- Two of more passengers – $4.00 per person Flat Rate (no taximeter)
- One Passenger – Operator may use Taximeter or may charge the $4.00 rate
Towing & Immobilization Rates

Class A Vehicles - up to 10,000 pounds or vessels which are 15 feet or less
- Maximum flat rate of $160.00 for non-consensual or trespass tow
- In addition to the flat rate, the towing service may charge for mileage at a maximum rate of $6.00 per mile, not to exceed ten miles for a trespass tow
- In addition to the flat rate, the towing service may charge for mileage at a maximum rate of $6.00 per mile for a non-consensual tow
- For non-consensual tows that extend beyond the initial thirty minutes at the scene, the towing service may charge the maximum rate of $30.00 per fifteen-minute block thereafter, in addition to the flat rate
- A towing service may charge a maximum daily storage rate of $35.00 for non-consensual and trespass tows
- For tows that require inordinate labor, winching and recovery, when necessary, for vehicle removal from ditches, half submerged vehicles or off-road, the towing service may charge the maximum rate of $125.00 per hour, calculated in half-hour increments, provided that a fee not to exceed $62.50 imposed for the first half hour
- In addition to the flat rate specified above, for tows that require the use of a rotator, the towing service may charge a fee of $675.00 for the first hour. After the first hour, charges must be calculate in one-half (1/2) hour increments at a rate not to exceed $337.50 per one-half (1/2) hour. Inordinate labor fees shall not be imposed.
- For an immobilization, a maximum flat rate of $40.00 may be charged

Class B Vehicles - 10,001-16000 pounds or vessels which are 16-22 feet
- Maximum flat rate of $200.00 for a non-consensual or trespass tow
- In addition to the flat rate, the towing service may charge for mileage at a maximum rate of $7.00 per mile, not to exceed ten miles for a trespass tow
- In addition to the flat rate, the towing service may charge for mileage at a maximum rate of $7.00 per mile for a non-consensual tow
- For non-consensual tows that extend beyond the initial thirty minutes at the scene, the towing service may charge the maximum rate of $40.00 per fifteen-minute block thereafter, in addition to the flat rate
- A towing service may charge a maximum daily storage rate of $45.00 for non-consensual and trespass tows
- For tows that require inordinate labor, winching and recovery, when necessary, for vehicle removal from ditches, half submerged vehicles or off-road, the towing service may charge the maximum rate of $160.00 per hour, calculated in half-hour increments, provided that a fee not to exceed $80.00 imposed for the first half hour
- In addition to the flat rate specified above, for tows that require the use of a rotator, the towing service may charge a fee of $675.00 for the first hour. After the first hour, charges must be calculated in on-half (1/2) hour increments at a rate not to exceed $337.50 per one-half (1/2) hour. Inordinate labor fees shall not be imposed.
- For an immobilization, a maximum flat rate of $40.00 may be charged

Class C Vehicles - 16,001 or more pounds or vessels which are more than 22 feet
- Maximum flat rate of $475.00 for a non-consensual or trespass tow
- In addition to the flat rate, the towing service may charge for mileage at a maximum rate of $8.00 per mile, not to exceed ten miles for a trespass tow
- In addition to the flat rate, the towing service may charge for mileage at a maximum rate of $8.00 per mile for a non-consensual tow
- For non-consensual tows that extend beyond the initial thirty minutes at the scene, the towing service may charge the maximum rate of $68.75 per fifteen minute block thereafter, in addition to the flat rate
- A towing service may charge a maximum daily storage rate of $75.00 for non-consensual and trespass tows
- For tows that require inordinate labor, winching and recovery, when necessary, for vehicle removal from ditches, half submerged vehicles or off road, the towing service may charge the maximum rate of $375.00 per hour, calculated in half hour increments, provided that a fee not to exceed $187.50 imposed for the first half hour
- For an immobilization, a maximum flat rate of $40.00 may be charged

Additional Rates and Regulations:
- No additional charges or fees for use of a Go-Jak or dollies
- Storage fees shall only be assessed after the first six hours, and accrue for each calendar day thereafter
- The filing and processing of a lien notice, shall not exceed $100.00 per vehicle towed. A filing and processing fee shall only be charged if the towing service has complied with the requirements of Section 713.78, Florida Statutes
- A towing service may charge a fee of no more than $20.00 when they find it necessary to install and maintain a tarpaulin coverage on any stored vehicle in order to protect the interior of the vehicle from damage by inclement weather
- When vehicles or vessels are requested to be released after hours, or on days which the towing and/or immobilization service are closed, the business may charge a service fee of no more than $70.00 to open and release the vehicle or vessel.
- For non-consensual towing, a towing and/or immobilization service may charge the $70.00 fee to open, but only if 3 hours have passed since the towing and/or immobilization notified local law enforcement and the owner of the vehicle, the time for release may be extended for up to 18 hours from the time the request is made with no additional charge. No additional storage or lien notice charges shall be assessed under the 18-hour extension one agreement has been reached.
- All storage and recovery charges shall be payable prior to the release of the vehicle or vessel
